The Most Vibrant Neighborhoods to Live in Valencia

You already know we love Valencia. Biased or unbiased, we will always speak of our city with the utmost admiration and respect because it has so much depth to it that it becomes more and more beautiful with the time you spend there.

Of course, even a day in Valencia will tell you how amazing our city can be but if you decide to stick around for a bit, you might completely fall for it.

And what makes Valencia even more special are all the different corners and neighborhoods that each carry its own story and feeling. So, today, we will take you on a virtual tour through some of the most vibrant neighborhoods in the city and show you that there is also a corner for you, whoever you might be.

So, without saying much further, let’s take a stroll through our beloved city:

El Carmen

Let’s start with the old town - the El Carmen neighborhood.

El Carmen is an emblematic neighborhood that beautifully captures Valencia's rich history throughout the centuries. As you wander through its narrow, winding streets, you'll discover hidden plazas, medieval churches, and remnants of the ancient city walls

El Carmen is a treasure trove of cultural experiences, with museums and art galleries showcasing local and international works. But, it has also become a hub of creativity, with trendy shops and vibrant bars and clubs that attract both locals and visitors.

While El Carmen is a beautiful neighborhood to spend your time, explore the city, and enjoy a vibrant stroll, it gained a lot of popularity among tourists which has resulted in a shift in demographics. That’s why you will not meet many locals who live and get on with their everyday lives in El Carmen.

A lot of the locals found their sanctuaries somewhere a bit quieter and hassle-free, but it doesn’t mean they don’t visit it from time to time to surround themselves with all the foreigners who appreciate their city.

Today, El Carmen is full of Airbnbs and perfect spots for a tourist escape in the city. It’s great for shorter stays and for when you want to quickly immerse yourself in the city and its charm.

As you explore El Carmen, we suggest taking a moment to appreciate its historical significance and the fusion of old and new that characterizes this captivating district. El Carmen promises an unforgettable experience that blends Valencia's heritage with modern cultural expressions and is a must-see if you’re exploring the city.

Cabanyal

Now, let’s step into Cabanyal, a historic neighborhood that embodies the essence of Valencia's maritime heritage, characterized by colorful houses showcasing a diversity of architectural styles and traditions.

Once a fishing district of the city, in recent years, Cabanyal has undergone a remarkable process of revitalization. Today, the streets come alive with the aromas of freshly prepared seafood, inviting you to indulge in the neighborhood's culinary scene. Traditional bars open up in the spring and summer offering a taste of authentic Valencian culture, while colorful markets show off with their vibrant displays of local produce.

Cabanyal's proximity to the beach is one of its selling points as it allows visitors to enjoy the sun, sand, and sea just a stone's throw away. But other than offering a mesmerizing stroll down the beach, Cabanyal has also become a cultural hub, with theaters, cultural spaces, and the new Marina serving as a thriving center for Valencia's entrepreneurial and tech ecosystem.

One of the neighborhood's alluring qualities is the mix of tradition with a bohemian and artistry vibe. So, as you wander through its streets, expect to encounter artists' studios, galleries, and creative spaces that all add up to the neighborhood's vibrant artistic scene.

Moreover, Cabanyal is such a special neighborhood because it offers a unique blend of history, culture, and human creativity that captures the true essence of Valencia. It doesn't matter if you're hungry for fresh seafood, immersing yourself in the local arts scene, or enjoying the coastal beauty, Cabanyal promises an enriching experience that will leave a lasting impression.

Eixample & Ruzafa

Lastly, we’re coming up to Eixample, maybe the most popular Valencian neighborhood

Eixample, meaning "extension" in Valencian, is a district that was designed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as an urban expansion project to accommodate the city's growing population. Today, this district showcases a rich variety of historic and monumental buildings, many of them masterfully designed by renowned architects of the time.

Within Eixample, you'll find a blend of residential areas, urban life, and cultural dynamism. The district offers a wide range of amenities, including restaurants, leisure options, shops, boutiques, bookstores, and more, all conveniently located in the heart of Valencia.

Eixample's exceptional quality of life is enhanced by its vibrant cultural and multicultural offerings, with numerous art galleries, theaters, and concert venues that enrich urban life and promote art and creativity.

Despite its urban appearance, Eixample is also rich in green spaces that provide a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. One of the standout areas is the famous Jardín del Turia, a 7 kilometers long park located on the old Turia riverbed. This expansive patch of nature offers an oasis of tranquility where residents and visitors can enjoy nature, engage in sports activities, or spend quality time with friends without actually leaving the city center.

Within Eixample, there are different noteworthy areas such as Ruzafa and Gran Via, both offering a special piece of Eixample depending on what you’re looking for.

Ruzafa

Ruzafa has undergone a significant transformation in recent years. It was once a working-class area, only to evolve into what most visitors today know as a hip and artistic hub of the city.

Ruzafa is long-known for its bohemian atmosphere, trendy cafes, bookshops, and eclectic art galleries. And in recent years, it has become particularly popular among international residents, adding to its multicultural vibe. It’s the perfect neighbor for those who like to be in the center of the happenings, surrounded by a non-stop pop of cultural exchange

For those who like the same vibe but would prefer to live a bit more low-key and in a quieter alternative to Ruzafa, there is Gran Via.

Gran Via (Vivarium Neighborhood)

While Ruzafa has gained popularity and become busier, Gran Vía, which is also the area of choice for our coliving, has managed to maintain its local charm and offers a more peaceful environment. Gran Vía provides a quieter residential experience while still being just a short 5-minute walk away from the vibrant energy of Ruzafa and the city center.

For us, Gran Via is the perfect area to be nestled in when exploring Valencia’s charm and culture. It gives you the privacy and local experience needed not to become overwhelmed and quickly get tired but keeps you in the loop with all that the city has to offer.

Nevertheless, both Gran Via and Ruzafa offer a remarkable blend of convenience, cultural richness, and connectivity.

With their close proximity to the old town and other areas in the city, residents of these neighborhoods enjoy the best of both worlds—a thriving urban lifestyle and easy access to the tranquil beauty of Valencia.
